Using your mailbox
This guide covers the Mailclient provided by Wolf-Cloud.
Find your way around
The mailbox has three main areas:
- The sidebar contains Compose, Inbox and other standard folders, your custom folders, and Settings.
- The message list shows the selected folder. Use All, Unread, or Starred above the list to narrow it.
- The reading pane shows the selected message and its actions.
Use the sidebar control to collapse or reopen the folder list. On desktop, you can drag the divider beside the message list to resize it. Select the refresh button when you want to check immediately for new mail.
The top bar also contains a theme button, your username, Sign out, and Wolf-Cloud app links.
Read and find messages
Select a folder and then select a message. Opening a message marks it as read. Unread senders and subjects appear emphasized in the list.
To find mail:
- Enter words in the search box at the top of the mailbox.
- Press Enter.
- Optionally choose All, Unread, or Starred.
- Clear the search box to return to the full folder view.
Search and filters apply to the folder you currently have open. If a result is not there, repeat the search in the folder where the message may be stored.
Select the star at the edge of a message row, or the star in an open message, to add or remove it from the Starred filter.
Message times in the list and reading pane are shown in your Time zone preference, set under Settings → Calendar & Contacts (see Calendar & contacts); it defaults to UTC until you choose one.
Work with an open message
The message toolbar provides the actions available for the current folder:
- Archive moves the message to the server's Archive folder.
- Move to Inbox returns a message to Inbox when appropriate.
- Move to lets you select another standard or custom folder.
- Mark unread keeps the message but returns it to an unread state.
- Delete normally moves the message to Trash. In Trash, deletion is permanent. Deletion is also permanent everywhere if Delete messages permanently instead of moving them to Trash is enabled in Settings.
- Reply, Reply all, and Forward open a pre-addressed compose window.
Permanent deletion cannot be undone
Check the current folder and your folder deletion preference before deleting important mail.
Attachments and external images
Attachments are listed with the message. Select an attachment to download it and use your browser's download controls to open or save it.
Images hosted on a sender's website are blocked initially to protect your privacy. Load them only when you trust the sender. Mailclient fetches requested images through its own protected image service rather than connecting your browser directly to the sender's server.
Very large messages or remote images may be refused because Wolf-Cloud applies safety limits. Download the message in another supported mail client or email sysadmin@wolf-cloud.com if you need help.
Compose and send mail
- Select Compose.
- Enter one or more recipients in To. Separate multiple addresses with commas.
- Use Cc or Bcc when needed.
- Add a subject and write the message.
- Add attachments with the attachment control.
- Select Send.
Your display name and signature come from Settings > Identity. Replies and forwards fill in the relevant recipients, subject, and quoted content for you; review them before sending.
If you configured an Undo send period, a confirmation appears after you select Send. Choose Undo before the countdown ends to cancel delivery and return to the draft. With undo send set to Off, Mailclient sends immediately.
Tip
Stay on the Mailclient page during the undo period. Closing the tab or signing out is not a reliable way to cancel a queued message.
Organize folders
Standard folders such as Inbox, Sent, Drafts, Archive, Spam, and Trash appear when your mail server provides them.
To create a custom folder:
- Select New folder in the sidebar.
- Enter a folder name.
- Select Create.
To remove a custom folder, select its delete control and confirm the action. Standard system folders cannot be removed from Mailclient. Move any mail you want to keep before deleting a custom folder; folder removal may also remove the messages it contains on the mail server.
Customize Mailclient
Open Settings from the bottom of the sidebar. Remember to select the save button in each section you change.
Identity
- Display name is the name recipients see with your email address.
- Signature is inserted into newly composed messages.
Reading & sync
- Messages per page can be 10, 25, 50, or 100.
- Check for new mail every controls automatic checks from 1 to 30 minutes.
- Show a browser notification requests a desktop notification for new mail. Your browser must also allow notifications for the site.
- Undo send period can be off or range from 5 to 60 seconds.
Appearance
Choose color or theme-matching monochrome icons for the app launcher. Use the theme button in the mailbox top bar to switch between light and dark mode.
Folders
- Folder to open on login chooses your initial mailbox view.
- Delete messages permanently instead of moving them to Trash bypasses Trash for future deletions. Enable it only if that is intentional.
Security
The Security page lets you configure authenticator 2FA and passkeys, regenerate recovery codes, see recent sign-in IP addresses, sign out other devices, and control cross-device sign-in approval. See Account security.
Sign out
Select Sign out in the top bar, especially on a shared device. Closing the tab alone may leave your server-side session active until it expires. To close other sessions while keeping the current one, use Settings > Security > Log out other devices.
